coffee diary...day six

hooray! i am back in brooklyn at my favorite coffee shop (guess). i spent my last day in pdx not drinking stumptown coffee. i checked out a local roaster/coffee shop...ristretto roasters to enjoy a cappaccino. the end.

coffee diary...day five

howdy friends...another day another coffee experience. miss stefanie mihoulides (aka my bff) , a waitress at the j&m, showed off barista skills with a cappuccino. then over the burnside bridge i walked to the downtown stumptown for a macchiato and a croissant. a great breakfast!

more coffee exploration....stumptown at the ace hotel....they have four clovers and tons of coffee to choose from! with help from the barista i ordered and drank fabulously clean and rich cup of micro mill lot, costa rica, finca salaca-villalobos.

coffee diary...day three

howdy friends...so if you have not figured it out yet, i am in portland, oregon running around kickn' it with old pals. in between shooting the shit, eating food, walking around and drinking alcoholic beverages i have been checking out the local coffee shop scene with a new appreciation after leaving the NW for the NE and being part of the growth of cafe grumpy. so today...i started my caffeine in take at the fresh pot on mississipi with a cappuccino made by my favorite barista miss katie greenhoot.

cupping 101

cupping 101
facilitaor: ed
objective: to analyze four coffee samples
roll call: jonathan, cheryl, ryan and kira
we were given 4 coffee beans to analyze
we analyzed the fragrances and aroma of the ground coffees
water was added to the ground coffee
more smelling of wet coffee
it's time to break the crust to capture the escaping gases (aromas)
spray and slurp to analyze the brightness, flavor, body and after taste
the cupping was concluded with the attendees comparing notes and sharing their descriptions of the four coffee types based on five categories: fragrance/aroma, brightness, flavor, body and aftertaste. finally ed revealed the coffees samples...a tripled picked sumatra, misty valley ethipoian, 80 lot costa rican and an paca mara, el salvador.
